There is not enough chapstick… to be had whilst fishing.

MUSIC: Tommy Guerrero – 100 Years

Since all of my trivia compadres are either sick or lame, I’m assed out tonight…well, assed in I guess. So time for an update.

There’s a weird thing with blogging for me and I’m guessing I’m not alone in this: you’re either not doing much and therefore have nothing to write about, or you’re really busy and have lots to write about but no time in which to jot it all down. That’s where I’ve been lately and while I’m certainly not complaining, I really should make more of an effort to spray something up on this wall from time to time, even if only a few stop to look.

So what exactly have I been up to? Besides the previously mentioned trivia night (first place two weeks running!) there’s been concerts, parties, afterparties, trips, travels, dinners, and lots and lots of toothpicks used in between. Some specifics shall we?

-Went down to San Diego on Halloween to see my parents, who were in town for a conference thinger for dad’s job. Had a pretty good time, but missed out on the LA ‘ween festivities. Took the train down, which is not only just as cheap as driving, but faster and more relaxing…and they serve booze. Which means that going to Comicon next year should be even more funJ

-Had an incredibly fun birthday party at Sardos karaoke bar in Burbank. I’m not too humble to say that I straight killed ‘Baby Got Back’, much to the delight of the crowd. Though I was later booed for walking off mid-Hey Ladies (hey, the words were wrong and I have proof), the night was not tarnished one bit.

-FINALLY saw the Lifesavas! They were amazing of course. Their Misfit Massive partner Libretto also hopped in for a few tracks, which was a nice surprise. Openers Blue Scholars impressed me enough to buy their CD at the merch table…rare for a hiphop show.

-Got last-minute free passes to the Spike TV Videogame Awards, which is a sad fucking sham of an awards show. Basically whatever game had the biggest celebrity endorsement won the award…many for games that weren’t even out yet at the time of the taping (it airs Dec. 10th). Fiddy Cent performed, with Mase up there on stage as the backest backup man I’d ever seen. It was OK, but I’m pretty much over Fiddy at this point. Missy Elliot’s dancers were amazing, but she lip-synched (VERY disappointing) and was riding a rascal around on stage since her leg was in a cast. And for some reason…Def fuckin’ Leppard played as well. The best part of the show was host Sam Jackson doing the whole Ezekiel 25:17 bit to get the bored crowd going. The worst part was not being able to see Sam do his opening monologue because fucking Coolio was blocking my view. I mean seriously, who let Coolio in the door?

-Also went to the VGA afterparty, which was infinitely cooler than the show was. We had some of Vin Diesel’s meatloaf, downed some free apple vodka/mountain dew/cinnamon martinis, and listened to Grandmaster Flash spin in a fluffy pink and purple room. My partner-in-crime George, aka Asian Mike, met Aquaman from Smallville and I got my picture taken with Tony Hawk.

-Reid and I tried (unsuccessfully) to get Xbox 360s on the morning of launch, for the sole (evil) purpose of selling them for double on eBay. I hope those of you that genuinely wanted the thing to use were lucky enough to snag it.

-Flew to my parents’ in Indiana for Thanksgiving. I didn’t take my DS so I’d be forced to use my PSP. I regretted it.

-On a whim, went to see the Clippers play the Cavs. Lebron had an off-night but still like 30 points. The highlight was Chris “White Lightning” Kaman getting 19 rebounds and making a crazy shot, facing away from the hoop, after getting pushed. Also, the Staples Center charges at minimum $8.75 for a beer. I am proud of myself from abstaining.

-Had the office trip to Disneyland, which was much fun but damned exhausting. The dinner spread they provided for us was obscene, though. I was filled to bursting, yet still eating…and then they brought out the desserts. Goodness me. At some point after dinner, I realized that we were at a theme park at 11pm on a Monday night in December…it was just weird. I also had a moment on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride…when my jacket got splashed and I was like “aww man, my jacket’s all wet”…and then…”jesus…I sound like my dad!”. Also, Star Tours was bumpier than I remember. Getting older sucksL

-If you want to see pics of any of the above, let me know. I’m far too lazy to post em all.

Points of interest:

-I quit WoW again. Ahem.

-“Lovely Broken Thing” and “Pizza For Eggs” are available to purchase at Underworldlive.com. I simply must order you to buy them, as they’ll improve your December, even if you don’t think it needs improving.

-If you know where Audioshrapnel went, tell him we miss him. We want December Bastard 2005 and he’s got 3.5 weeks left to oblige.

-Castlevania DS is the best in the series, ever. I say this with the utmost confidence, having just replayed Symphony of the Night.

-The X3 trailer is cool, with the exception of Juggernaut. I am officially back on board.

-I’m going to see MF Doom and Pigeon John tomorrow night!

-Mr. 888 himself will be in town next Tuesday and we’re peeping Lady Sovereign (yay!) at Cinespace (ugh!). The crowd better be more responsive than they were for Lyrics Born or Sov’s liable to jump on them, or so I hear.

-I’ll be in Pburg for New Years…start training now.

Til next time,
Ten more miles, my apprentice…
