Runnin' Hott

MUSIC: Europe - The Final Countdown

Greetings. Welcome to '06!
I'm comin' atcha live on location from northside Pburg. My vacation is quickly coming to an end, and it's been wonderful. I'm taking it easy today, so I figured now was the best time for an update.
I got to my parents' on Festivus afternoon and was immediately overwhelmed by how much mom had baked. I ate mad cookies, and got plenty more packed up for the trip home. Xmas Eve (and most of my time there actually) was spent watching basketball and football on TV, kinda by default. I also caught a marathon of Perfect Hair Forever, which is so randomly bizarre and hilarious, but not in a laugh-out-loud kinda way. Xmas morning was refreshing because last year was spent in a hotel room in Vegas, so this one definitely felt more "real", even though I'm not sure I'll ever be 100% comfortable in my parents' house on Xmas, because I've never lived there. It was also the first time I ever gave more gifts than I received, which was a really good feeling. My brother thought I "really stepped up my game this year". I was only there for 4 days, but it was enough. Then it was on to Columbus, OH for a night before coming back to the ol' hometown on Wednesday.
Since being here, I've been able to visit with everyone but the new Canuck, including a couple I haven't seen in years. There has also been a mass amount of beers drank and bad food eaten (I am on vacation yknow). New Year's Eve was the almost-perfect cap on what was probably the best year I've had in a long time. I got to have lunch and dinner with two of the people most dear to me, and have really good conversation with both. I got to party with three of my best friends, some new girlfriends of theirs, and some other cool folks. I had a really steady perfect buzz all night without getting wasted and/or sick. That night while falling asleep, I felt extremely happy, peaceful, and (I'll say it again without irony) blessed. I am not a religious person by any means, but I am appreciative of what I've got...and I've got quite alot.
I never make resolutions at New Year's, but this year I'm making several. I read somewhere to "use this past year as a springboard, not a sofa", and in my peaceful, happy, appreciative (buzzed) mood, I came up with the following, in no order:
1. Exercise...I want to be able to run, not walk, a mile without getting winded.
2. Learn a skill...I'm not sure what yet. It might be cooking, piano, drawing, I haven't decided and am open to suggestions.
3. Go skydiving...Fuck yeah.
4. Ask her out...maybe tomorrow, maybe Wednesday...we'll see.
5. Stop getting drunk...And this is not because I drink too much. It's not because of the sick feeling that comes with it. And it's not even really a resolution per se. Bascially I realized that, until next time I'm here, I probably won't ever have as much fun drinking than I did on New Year's Eve...and if I'm not having that much fun, then what's the point? So I'll still go out, I'll have two or three beers, maybe a shot if it's someone's birthday...but otherwise, I'm on pause for awhile.
Tomorrow I'm headed back westward, ready to do it to it. This holiday vacation has been incredibly invigorating, and now I'm pulled back like a rubberband ready to fly.

Til next time,
Peace.
